Behind the Brushstrokes

“I love creating work around the themes of food, drink and common objects where I can weave context, humor and whimsy together for a quirky point of view. “

Tina Folks has been a full time creative; ceramic artist, illustrator, and gardener who also enjoys cooking and creative writing. Together with her husband Bryan, she also shares a decorative painting, and wallpaper business called Fee Fi Faux, Inc. which serves the residential clientele on Eastern Long Island.

During the late 1980s thru 2017, Tina was a ceramist. Over the years, she created tableware, tiles & mosaics and lastly ceramic sculpture. Alongside her ceramic art practice, Tina stayed connected to her local community co-producing several public art projects. Notably, “We are All Connected,” a community fire ceremony in 2014, held at East End Arts in Riverhead NY and in 2017 the MAKE YOUR MARK community ceramic tiled wall project, permanently installed at Gallery North campus in Setauket, Long Island.

By 2017, Tina felt ready to leave the demands of her ceramic studio practice for something more lighthearted and less intensive. So, she returned to her childhood passion: sketching and creative writing. This journey led her to become a contributor to The Hummingbird Post, a lifestyle blog that celebrates diverse perspectives from emerging writers, foodies, and other creatives. It's here where you can read and follow her original series, JUST FOLKS which features her illustrations and commentary, that embody the blog’s spirit of warmth, community, and inspiration.

Currently, Tina resides in Patchogue, NY, with her husband Bryan and their four feral cats, who graciously allow them to live there. Tina proudly claims that Devil Dogs are her power animal— because who wouldn't want to channel the energy of devil’s food cake with creamy filling?
