Mail Art
After taking an on-line class for making mail art with the artist Juliana Coles, I was inspired to make my own. I loved the idea of exchanging original, postcard sized art through the USPS. Because the enjoyment is not only intended for the recipient, but also meant for the postal workers to experience as they handle it.

The avant garde artist Ray Johnson of the 1950’s and 60’s inspired the idea of exchanging mail art first through a small group of poets, musicians and visual artists which eventually grew into The New York Correspondence School in the mid 1950’s. It is still an activity that’s practiced today through official card exchanges or among smaller groups of artists. I find that selling or sharing Mail Art postcards is also a great way for someone to own a small piece of your original art!
